I have found myself in a situation wherein I have turned myself into some kind of a colour blind individual or one that is afraid of colours. I think I have already shared previously that currently my favoured colour palette consists primarily of black and white, navy, grey, and a ton of neutrals. As a result of that, I have found myself finding the sight of my then colourful clothes a bit unbearable these days that I have made it some kind of a task to get rid of most of them. There are some I'd keep for the sake of giggles. Tu sais quoi, there are those clothes horrendous as they are or tacky as they are but you just couldn't let go because they make you laugh. In any case, their purpose is still to stay within the confines of your closet and for viewing purposes only. Meanwhile, Sovereign Beck's new collection of wool and silk ties rather made me reconsider about adding a bit of colour again to my wardrobe. A palette of Purples, pinks, and yellows need not be so dreadful or too much as something like a shocking pink tie I was staring at Marks & Spencer a few hours ago. One key advantage over the neckwear from Sovereign Beck is fusing a bit of rigour and provocation. For instance, the prints do not necessarily resemble something typical among ties sold in the market. There's that allure over those intricate patterns that bears a bit of Op Art or perhaps thinking of Pointillism in a more graphic manner. It's like rendering a part of a Seurat painting and using purple, pink, and yellow against a backdrop of grey and black. I assume that with the coming collections they'd end up with more way-out patterns but for now a bit of that electric vibe contained in a monochromatic background works really well for me.
This rather resolves the issues I have with colours pretty well as I happen to have a weakness for ties. I think I have gathered something around 70 or 80 pieces of them and around 90% of them has hardly been used. I suddenly remembered that fun tie from Jean Charles de Castelbajac with repeating rain clouds all over it which is so humorous (which I probably will wear to a kid's party... I'll have to wait for one of my friends to have children perhaps) then to that slim black tie from Zara I keep on using time and time again. On top of all that, these ones from Sovereign Beck would be nice additions. Maybe I should get a job to have an excuse to wear ties but the corporate world isn't really for me. On the other hand, when I get done with my postgraduate studies then perhaps I could put those ties on rotation if I try my luck as a professor. In any case, the use of bold colours for this collection set against backgrounds of greys and blacks which contains these loud colours makes it favourable to someone like me... I do happen to favour a little control from time to time. Society conditions you to that at one point, non?
