The humidity levels aren't as severe these past few days but heavy precipitation gets me down. I particularly hate precipitation mixed with strong winds or continuous rain showers as the asphalt on the roads here become swept away and driving through the roads here become an absolute nightmare. A usual one hour drive becomes an arduous almost 2 hour journey. It's never good. At times, I ask myself that as a citizen shouldn't the bloody government here somehow entitle us to properly made roads? Somewhere at the back of my mind, I am imagining in my mind a vision of a storm trooper with elevated shoes (to somewhat aid in the easy manoeuvre in the flood-prone streets of poor Manille) and a hard-edged/raw kind of glamour and this is how it went. I suddenly thought of the scenario where no vehicles can pass and only man and his two feet. Perhaps this also has something to do with a fascination over Man Vs. Wild avec Bear Grylls. I am not the outdoorsy, adventure loving mec but I seem to be fond of that show on the Discovery. Et alors, in this landscape where no vehicles can pass through, I have this vision of a man who would come in a kind of armour which consists of a mix of heavy outerwear and a kind of contained savage beauty that would enable him to brave the forces of nature.
The shoes were rather keen on making the feet look like the hooves of this kind of horse or as I went on building on this collection- yeti's legs. I also fell in love with the idea of tons and tons of zippers for almost pure ornamentation. Somehow, I'd just like you to imagine a contemporary warrior as well with a Béatrice Dalle/Vincent Gallo violent kind of disposition in Claire Denis' Trouble Every Day. Maybe if this transpires into a real défilé in Paris then I'd have the faces of my model with blood and inject this kind of extremism you'd see from Pasolini's Salo, Breillat's Anatomie de l'enfer or Gaspar Noé's Irreversible. It's like finding beauty in the gory and ugliness in sexuality and the act itself. Also, if I'd be lucky to stage a show inspired by this one, the runway has to be extremely dreary plus add along a snowstorm or perhaps instances of avalanche staged on the runway. The bigger picture is that I am still traumatised by the heavy rains that turned everything upside down here in Manille some two weeks ago. I tried depicting a scarred beauty moulded by experience characterised by much hardships. I guess in the end, I tried to hide my fears about the bad weather through fashion.
Over the past few days, this little collection of mine has grown. Perhaps I shall also share those illustrations that came next after these ones.

Bravo! I love how your illustrations are contemporary... so, is the dream still on?
Send me a postcard whn you're in Antwerp/ CSM London :)
